i am in love
with the silence of
writing
without sound
without movement
of eye, of lip
thought that
mimics
a sea, its shores molded
by flow and crest
by ebb and fall
heart beats; separate, same
in rhythmic cadence,
consistently phased, unremarked
i sail
this silence - not sullen or spent
softened
across the bow of wishbone
held, allayed by mast of a dream, gathering incandescent
dust of demi-gods parimonious
of lost treasure
understanding its salten water, the need
of its rhythm,
my need of
silence

Silence is so beautiful... sometimes thats all you need... this poem is like a vision of meditation put in words.
ReplyDeleteThere is something quite soothing in exploring the mind and soul. Writing silence gives that opportunity! Beautiful!
ReplyDeletelove your opening line as i feel the same often...and i am particularly fond of the silence...nice spiritual undertones as well...
ReplyDeleteYou have named it well. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe wonderous tug of war of the heart and mind as it springs forth with new beginnings, new ponderings to pen down. Beautifully expressed.
ReplyDeleteSilence and solitude can be healing indeed, and listening to the words that well up through it here is soothing and spiritually refreshing.
ReplyDeleteSilence is all too rare - there is a Rugby tournament right outside my window...oh and go Pens!
ReplyDeleteSign me up for this sweet voyage -- The analogies between writing and sailing, diving, retrieving treasure, carving wavelike forms, each wave a line, the poem sailing from first word to last. The play of silence between thought and sea -- merged by the mind's womb, or vice versa -- is wonderful. I'm sure I'm not surprising you with any of my sympathies; suffice to say "amen," "ahoy!" and "thar she blew!"! - Brendan
ReplyDeleteMe too. I found freedom in the bottom of an inkwell, oh the glorious solitude. Love this piece.
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully expressed. I especially love the "bow of wishbone, mast of dreams" metaphor. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI relate to this too. The silence and the sea. Beautiful inside.
ReplyDeleteSilence is the most nurturing experience for this heart.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely, beautiful expression of silence.
The sounds of this poem (I read it out loud) are lush, yet they flow freely. Beautiful, B.K.
ReplyDeleteWhen all is silent, our inner self guides.

ReplyDeletePerhaps my favorite lines in this sonorous poem: "softened / across the bow of wishbone / held, allayed by mast of a dream".
ReplyDeleteI think of how much we "write" in our heads, hear the music of the words there first.
what a lovely piece on solitude... very well written and beautifully expressed... as always! :)

It is in the silence that we hear so much of what's inside. Some willing to get out. Others requiring the artist's sweat and tears. So nice, dear bkm. Thank you.
