nymph loved in youth

As nymph loved in youth not only in my mind,
white cotton lace in retrospect
I trimmed to golden leaf -
Years passage, thoughts forgotten, left to mark and kind
Not so this course of summer
but to setting love as loves belief; pure
as the dew of morning, softer than words
spoken to a bloom -
With all  the world my orphanage,  with all
the world as my very own.  So, it was I loved

you then as any bee does love
the blossom new, and you loved as the blossom did
the warmth of summers air,  sweet honey
at the threshold of a royal's throne -
with lace and hair entwined pulling as freedom
pulls the youthful heart.

Imparting still life reflections
passed by on such a thoughtfilled day,
dreaming in the nymph like pleasures
of a summer that too
quickly slipped away....

  1. this captured the feeling, style and mood of the pic so well...wonder what was first - pic or words...either way - they're a perfect match, a romantic and tender voice today bk

  3. WHY is it that this line is still with me when all others have slowly went away? (Please don't answer--grin!

    "white cotton lace in retrospect
I trimmed to golden leaf -"

Those blossom lines are beautiful also--heck the whole poetic read is exceptionally well written!

    Thank you bkm.

(The summer slipped away--but not the memories, eh? Loved it!)

  8. Delicate and beautifully crafted poem-- I especially love these lines;

Not so this course of summer
but to setting love as loves belief; pure
as the dew of morning, softer than words
    spoken to a bloom -
With all the world my orphanage, with all

  11. Summer and nymphs, the stuff of lacey love and sweet blooms. The breath of innocence and poetry condensed into these honeyed lines. The freedom. Bees buzzing too I think.

Such a great feeling in this BKM. Ahhhh.

  12. Beautiful and summery work of art to accompany the wonderful write. So many moments of summer captured by your words, and it has slipped by so very quickly...I can smell Autumn burning on the breeze. Once again, I leave your abode smiling and maybe, just a little bit :( Thanks for helping keep the season alive, just a bit longer.

  17. My guess is that you wrote to the image, and did so with so much eloquence. All the world as my orphanage...as my own. Just a few among so many delicious thoughts and words.

  20. Refreshing and gentle as a quick summer rainshower. Especially liked
"With all the world my orphanage"

We are never too old to become orphans, I have learned as my summers burned away...

  22. I always smile waiting thtat second for your page to load because I know I am in for a treat and you never dissappoint.

So it was I loved. That is the capstone line for me. You could have repeated it again and again. It could stand alone. I wasn't suggesting anything negative or ffering advice, this is perfect, I was just voicing pleasure with this line and its place in this piece. You are on point again tonight. No gimmicks. Just great writing.

  25. This perfectly captures the wistfulness of summer's end. Love it.

  26. I think you captured "girldom" here. The times we settled into softness, curls, catching ourselves in mirrors right after a giggle, the scratchy dress that looked prettier than it felt, the parties with stockings not anklets - somehow I felt these things between the lines. Lovely. G.

  33. (sigh).. so beautifully romantic.. and almost wistful too.. but then again, when love decides to move on, it does leave behind some wist.. doesn't it? :)

The change of seasons certainly does that to us..

A lovely read, Barbara...tender and warm..

  34. You bring back the old days, high times, and innocence well in this one, flowing smoothly like the river of time that has taken us all so much further on--yet, how pleasant it is to look back.
