a puddle of sun

there is a puddle of sun
in my front yard that refuses growth
again I am forced this day to stand
straight up in it and confess all earthly
transgressions

its carcinogenic rays
pierce my thoughts, worm
their way into the organs I have earmarked vital

burn they do, all
burns, as

reference to a collective self
succumbs to their tranquillizing calm, until
all words are lost in flame,
warming to hot, hot to bone,
to marrow
all crumbles to a mound of coal black ash
outlined and edited by the bluest of sky, summoning a
collection soul worthy, bone to word, word to bone melded
molded into a compendium
of sacrifice
