mirage

I saw you moving
into the eye of the storm
                                              towards a saddled
mammal tall

I thought you would
circumvent the inevitable
conquer the nature of all torment
internal, match it
with movement heighten quick, but
unchallenged
you set compass dead
center, embodied the sting

of sand, each particle piercing
skinned hide until
all ran red into a sea set
to desert; my eye

my Bedouin blue, focused
on an outcome, taking
rest in the mirage I believed
to be eternal

  2. Poetic comment:

Liked the flow and rhythm to "towards a saddled
mammal tall", "circumvent the inevitable", "center, embodied the sting", "until all ran red into a sea set".

    I enjoyed the images.

  3. My skin actually 'felt' the sting of wind-blown sandy particles. You have given imagery to this eye far beyond sight.

    PEACE!

  5. Barbara, with the word "Bedouin" I felt this poem through and through.

Writing Arabic stories, I found a resonance in your words....and a mystery and something beyond the obvious words and imagery.

    Sandstorms, camels and courage.

    Marvelous poem, Barbara....haunting.
