you asked me to capture
the moments of our loving
you desired something tangible
to carry with you without edit or digital content
you professed that
you would pin it to your heart
you would wear it as a name tag for love
it would have to define all the details of our soft nights, soft lights
our mused moments, touch...
it had to be the Leica
it had to be the darkroom
it had to be us

mmm...in my back pocket for when ever i need it...though in the dark room makes me think it might be a little more tactile...

bkm, this poem would sound excellent read aloud, especially the passage i quote. Seems an almost breathless section with composure regained by touch.
It had to be...
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm this is delicious!
ReplyDeleteInevitability amidst the tension of love, always a weighty moment, needing to be memorialized somehow. Lovely piece, bkm.
ReplyDeleteLovely and so moving: It had to be us. Love is so beautiful, when it is right.
ReplyDeleteA really great response to the prompt You create a wonderful tension here between the moment captured and the memories to come A very evocative and moving poem
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, having just built and finished my darkroom, I'm hoping something this exciting will happen there now lol! Sensitive, deep piece of penwomanship Barbara x
ReplyDeleteTall order, eh ... And the trio of oldschool elements -- "Leica" (spelling?), "darkroom" (which serves lovers and artists), "us" -- the only way to burn an image indelibly, unless, of course, you write a poem instead, which you did. Loved it. - Brendan (p.s., did you mean "digital" in the fourth line?)
ReplyDeleteThat is very kind of her!! I'm sure her lover will treasure it!
ReplyDeleteOooh oh so tense! Agree with Dustus.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! This is a stunning love poem, bkm! And its cadence flows in a way that leaves me breathless. I agree, it would be great read aloud. I love love love the ending! So romantic!
ReplyDeleteI loved this...a timeless memory.
ReplyDeleteBarbara,
ReplyDeleteThis one had not only gentleness, but that sense of 'need' that lovers have when they really don't want to part. Even a two-dimensional image is better than not touching.

And it did have to be us. The woman in the photo knows far more about the photographer, perhaps farm more than the photographer knows. Great poem, B.K.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful..............
ReplyDeleteSweetly sweet.
ReplyDeleteSo much feeling coveyed, yet the read itself is rapid. emotion, longing, memory, heart...wonderful take on the prompt, and love the real you and new look!
ReplyDeleteLovely - and an image that I can really relate to. And as others have mentioned, love the cadence.
ReplyDeletelovely flow into that final, "it had to be us"... almost like a final exhale... beautiful capture on this photo prompt ~
ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely with an undertone of loss...
ReplyDeleteIt left me wondering what went on in the darkroom though.
Lovely. Thank you.
