Eclipse

a year secures its legacy
as the moon veils her phase
with light facing inward, reflecting
the passing of life's days,
and an aura
surrounding morning
its all to fated hand
that I often think about, but can seldom
understand  -   the love

you imparted with the waxing
of a tear -  faithfully
a promise, the gift of but one year..
of days and nights as
lovers
an all to fatal vow... now
ending as you take your leave
along with goddess
and her throne, shrouding me
in memory - and standing
all alone....

  1. this ends on a very sombre not...the passing and leaving...and alone in the end...but then again all things are new once more...

  2. "the gift of but one year". I love the combining of the eclipse with the relationship, both waning. Beautiful writing, bkm.

  4. My new favorite of yours! Loved the tying together of the relationship and the lunar cycle. The soft rhyme really drove this home. Nicely, done. As always.

  8. Beautiful, solemn and true. Too many good lines to list, but the opening and "all to" refrain are particularly strong. My mind wants to say "too" though--it's a force to transpose it into 'to' and makes me rethink. It changes the meaning very subtly. Quite clever and the whole piece excellent.

  11. I see more than one person was inspired by the lunar eclipse. (I missed it - too cloudy!)

  12. "shrouding me with memory
    and standing all alone"

I actually felt myself standing in a place now shadowed and dark with the passing of the light...wonderful poem that captures transitions/phases on many levels...nature, symbol, spiritual...

    superb one shot my lady

  14. Dramatic, emotional way to express being alone in the dark. "the love / ...you imparted with the waxing / of a tear" Fantastic transition connecting two fine stanzas. Great poem, bkm!

  17. Such a beautiful, wistful poem! So many were inspired by last night's eclipse, and I couldn't see it for the clouds. Great poem!

  18. I like the comparison you used here...waxing and waning on the cusp of moon, of a new year. I saw it too and it was a meaningful part of this year's season for me. Have a Merry Christmas.

  19. Ohhh and not another for over 400 years, such morose loneliness captured in such beautiful words, and for love hopefully not that long a wait... wonderfully written! :) ~April

  20. It's a farewell to a year, but it's more than that, too. It's a way at looking at personal history. It's a love poem. It's about mystery and looking forward and looking back. Wow.

  24. Wow, what a lovely piece. I was listening to the right music to read this to as well, adds in the extra something to it.

Very nicely done, quite powerful and makes me really sad it was raining when the eclipse was happening in my area.

So far behind on bkm goodness! Must... catch... up...!

  27. a lot of poignancy I felt here, also lot that was gently honorific of the feminine (without becoming 'feminist', if you see what I mean, still very much accessible to us male poets :)

    Strong piece BKM
