Sweet Rose Briar

She entranced the forest in search of bone
in search of wood and bone and briar
she entered the forest in search of wood
coming instead upon its fire

"What name?" she asked of the flame
as it grew ever and ever  higher
"What name, my name, child?....Well, I
 be called...I be called..  DESIRE"

She shadowed the forest in search of wood
in search of wood and bone and briar
she stalked the forest in search of bone
coming instead upon its mire

"Where are the bones? she asked, The
bones  I seek and too so long aspire"
Replied the bog.."I have eaten the bones, lovely
each one, bones feed well my swampy FIRE"

She rambled the forest in search of bone
in search of wood and bone and briar
she roamed the forest in search of home
sinking instead to its DESIRE

Calling she  " Oh Forest, Where can I rest;
rest my wearied and long DESIRE?"  ...."Here,
here... echoed the forest, be  it your bed
within the heart of my.. Sweet Rose Briar"

  3. Fine, so fine. How I've known that Forest since I was a child ... its shadow always on my home, its enchantment devouring, death to enter, impossible to resist. Eros is a prickly frame, a rose with thorns, a briar patch of gorgeous wounds and the stench of lust, its thickets everywhere we seek a home. Gorgeous and frightening poem. - Brendan

  7. That was so lyrical! I hear troubadours singing that fantasy song as I'm transported to a time long ago.

  8. So many of your followers mentioned the lyrical aspect of this Magpie ~~ it's true, with a simple single instrument accompaniment I can hear it.
