from new to waxing
blinked a moon
Orion stood in might
of a heaven
belted
earth below - such a
starry, starry night
expression
words not fair to this
sight beheld of you
Vincent and your timelessness- beauty
golds and blue - and held
me in the spell of moon, and in the spell
of light - a vision of
one "
as beautiful" - this
starry, starry night...

Poets United: Think Tank Thursday - Observation
Love this painting. I used this a while back with a poem. You did a nice job. Van Gosh was quite the painter and you are quite the poet!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzi...last night the sky was so clear...the real prompt for this one...bkm
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite paintings and such an excellent poem to go along with it.
ReplyDeleteDearest bkm,
ReplyDeleteThis has always been a favourite painting, in addition to The Iris and The Cypruss Tree(can't remember the real names!). When we were in school, the song Starry Starry Night was featured in our English class and we got to debate and discuss the life of Van Gogh.
This has brought back many lovely memories.
Beautiful poem about a wonderful painting and the reference to the song is perfect. Just lovely and brought back memories to me as well.
ReplyDeleteBarb this is fantastic! I did my thesis on Van Gogh in university. Beautiful blend of words with the painting.
ReplyDeletePamela
Beautiful poem for the painting, bkm. Really enjoyed reading this...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I loved..."from new to waxing
ReplyDeleteblinked a moon " - What a wonderful description.
Vincent must have blushed! :)
ReplyDeleteBetter than Don Mcleans interpretation. I also love that painting. thanks
ReplyDeleteLove your interpretation of the painting and the night sky bestowed upon your area. Stunning piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting, beautiful song, and your beautiful work! Thank you so much. Maybe my favorite, at least today!
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem...
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful imagery...The ending is super..
nice...i love looking into the stars...so vast and beautiful...o much space in between to be filled with the possibilities...
ReplyDeleteOne of the most beautiful songs I know, one of my favorite paintings ever, and you've worked them both so cvery skillfully into this lovely piece. Thank you, lady.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant tribute
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite paintings. Your poem captures its beauty and the beauty of the night.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouraging comments on my blog. You have some beautiful and rich poetry here.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem, and of course a favorite painting. This post has extra meaning as I've just come from A Year with Rilke, where today's quote invokes the "spine-chilling stars" and reminded me of van Gogh...
ReplyDeletei grew up with this painting on my living room wall. not the original - a print. i remember quiet saturday and sunday afternoons, on my back, spent contemplating it. it seems so familiar to me. then i didn't understand what i was looking at: violent revolutions, the end of the world? those experiences planted a seed in me. you see something different. peaceful nights of beauty. now that i'm older, summer nights are like what you write, i'm happy to say. i treasure this.
ReplyDeleteoh - this makes me wanna go out and watch the night sky..beautiful
ReplyDeletethis is brilliant!! strong ethereal descriptions! effortless flow, great write!
ReplyDeleteI've had a hectic and crazy day, and reading your poem improved my state of mind drastically. You managed to say something new about a painting/song and personality that have been discussed ad infinitum, and show the simplicity and beauty thats under all the talk. Thanks for the dose of calm.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece of art, and the painting is nice too ;) Really...I have a small print of the painting, and now I think I should add your poem to it. A very pleasant post, my friend :)
ReplyDeleteMagical, beautiful and breathtaking!
ReplyDeletethank you for your lovely comments on this piece - i love the song, and the painting as well...may be all be filled with Starry,Starry Nights...bkm
