perfect marriage

it was the perfect marriage
he a serial celebrity
a San Quentin lifer
she an ex-cloister with
habits of her own....his conjugal visits
served as her morning vespers,
vows adhered to with pleasure
pardoning his sins..sliding in and out
of a mystic vision to
a cross carried by a different state
of consciousness...and a dying
middle class

Magpie Tales #44

this came to mind while thinking about a woman with three children who left her husband to marry someone doing life.....where does that thinking come from?

  15. Glad you included the little note, I was going off into political land with it. The opening lines really hook you (serial celebrity) and the whole poem pulls you along into a state of curiosity about what's going on and why. Mystifying finish engages the brain to supply the unexpressed answers. Enjoyed it very much.

  17. Awesome poem! I must say, some people are a bit messed up. At least you could find a way to make something good out of the situation.

  18. Dear Barbara: I'm getting hot flashes just thinking about this! Hot! Maybe if the lady with three children did decide to go out with a lifer it may have been because her children made her feel like she was already doing life! Plus she gets "benefits!" Seriously, I have to wonder...what the? Probably she has a bad "habit" of wanting "bad" boys! Love this line;
    "she an ex-cloister with
habits of her own" Won't forget this poem anytime soon!

  24. Love this. The line ...She an ex-cloister with habits of her own" is just awesome. The story reminded me of the characters in Dead Man Walking but I don't think they ever got it on in any way but spiritual.

  25. Awesome. Great imagery. Thanks for the note of explanation...I always enjoy knowing what inspired the author. As the others have said, that cloister line is rock-solid good.

  28. Incredible poem. I, too, have wondered about this phenomenon of women getting their jollies corresponding with prison inmates and, ultimately, marrying them. I'm sure psychologists have explanatiions.
