I have a Long Battle.....
I have a long battle with depression - it is not my
own, I do not claim, will not beat - nor cheat it from its place
of stature or reality of mind - when handed to me
as gift mercifully I will take it, touch it with tip
of finger (one finger) - scatch it; a polished nail
(screams it loud....drop it) drop it - fear to throw it
away - (catch it)..
catch it someone unintented may...
face it - not this mirror - nor this journal
of life, the beauty of it (sweet beauty) brushes my soul
hold it, No!...no...will not root it to a nurtured field; yielding
fruit..rotten stench...
(seeping in marrow, seeking to become whole) ...my tomorrow
its own road to forge, today's battle knows its dance
with sounded pipes, lines up
grace of victory ....melted...vice.. sweep it clean...from
cloud darkened.. canard white
weep no tears....fear washed; serene
blessed light

ReplyDeleteDear bkm: State of mind can be a matter of how we interpret our existence and depression can be wholly consuming and brutal. There is hope the "blessed light" Particularly enjoyed;

ReplyDeleteBKM, your poem is a strong one. You've captured so much of living with depression. I chose these words as favorite before noticing that chicoreal did as well.
