Writing by Lantern Light - 1856

a candle will not be sufficient tonight,
procured I did a lantern from the parlor
in which to write - a return to the post
you sent.   now it being over one week past
and my need to express my thoughts
on its matter has become vaster than I did expect,
or thought I would  feel, thus such emotion
does call on me to pen  a deepest reply
to the words.   words felt here miles to the east
of your current presence and my only choice
is to be resolved in this spacing away
and with it from being true witness - this day
to your eyes, your face bent towards
the lantern's glow -  tho' you sent promise of it
and guarantee that it could be harbored
as truth prior to the coming season's snow...Oh, to see
thee this night would be blessed, as I hold close
your words so dear..should I imagine it, yes
I shall - as I quill my deepest love, returned
to you My Darling,  each stroke
of ink sincere...

  1. Such love and patience. For some reason, this reminded me of a woman who's soldier went off to war, possibly the civil war, and here she is writing by the light of the lantern.

  2. thank you CM...did have to change the date...lanterns were not that readily available on the first date...so needed to add a few more years...and yes...the civil war would have many such letters I am sure....blessings..bkm

  16. That poem is a like a journey of romance. I imagine a woman sitting at a writing desk, looking out the window to the sea waiting for the return of a long lost lover. Just beautiful in fact it is the most beautiful I have read today.

find a theme or plugin that might be able to resolve this issue.
