Safe Harbor

Who is it that we come to, if not to self;
unclothed, undivided, unwed to others in
spite of making appearance –
Gestures, laughter
a blurred vision of life unkempt;
a rainforest of uncertainty with each thought
set into motion-

Voices surround the unsung clamor; shelter
becomes a prism,
harbored between self
and poetry

  1. "rainforest of uncertainty" sure packed a punch. I keep re-reading this piece. So much in there to love.

  3. I like the prism too, and the rainforest, and the first line, Who is it that we come to, if not to self . . . which is a beautiful question.

  5. Great imagery! the "unkempt life" the "prism" (which I keep reading as prison--perhaps it's that lighthouse, isolated & aloof)...
    Makes me think of Linda Pastan, who has a poem devoted to the making of a poem, how everything is sacrificed "for the sake of the poem."

  7. Oh goodness, are you sure this harbor is safe? It sounds like a clamorous mess, LOL. But we must accept... very well written!

  8. What I will take with me from this poem is that each of us must be our own safe harbor. Nice work!
