(i) speak
to the fawn
eye deep, wide and lashed, and
too the hare that senses
the day-
still and warm and calm and full
taking shadow as a dream
where
moss and morel caress
the trees, against sole heartbeat of a
wandering bee, stay too
trillium -
close to your forest
floor, while paintbrush colors this
first June sky
and (i)
sit and witness time slip by, towards
the
promise of a summers
day
when fawn and lily will come to play
yes,
when the tiger lily
again
does come to play,,,,,

I can get lost for days and days and nights... in the fifth stanza, in that promise that blooms and wilt and blooms (different things) all at once.
ReplyDeletei love the stillness of waiting...bkm
DeleteThese days of early summer is so filled with a promise of bloom... I too want to sit and listen for lilies ... our garden usually is filled with martagon lilies...

DeleteI too would like to be there, it sounds sooo nice and peaceful. Hot for summer? We've had "feel-like temps of over 100F and 96F actual already, the last two weeks of May. I might come if it's close on this Wednesday and Thursdsy, they may be cool, 80F's, as a tropical storm is coming. The fawn doesnt bite or ram does she?
ReplyDelete..

DeleteI lived in N. Michigan for years and morel's are a serious business and I adored adored adored ... white trillium spreading out upon the forest floor. This poem is certainly one to rest in.

ReplyDeleteAh, the luxury of sitting and witnessing time slip by - nothing like it when one is surrounded by so much beauty of nature!
ReplyDeleteThis is a poem to wander through and rest within. Love line about the heartbeat of a bee--this overlays the more mechanical way I tend to hear their buzz.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is so lyrical and beautiful, i wandered in and wanted to stay.outstanding, Barbara. My new favourite of yours.
ReplyDeleteI was suddenly reminded of Bambi with the fawn and the little bunny. The sense of newness that imbibes the spring, the ending made me feel like the innocence was about to shift in a subtle way. The lily becoming a tiger lily which has a bit more bite. Very captivating.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly stunning!!❤️ The early days of Summer are so filled with both bloom and hope.
ReplyDeleteYour poem is like a sweet meditation - so sweet and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteLovely notes in this eloquent piece … it really had to be spoken aloud … and so I did. Beautiful writing!
