resignations

unlikely resignations
and fanfare sit in my bottom drawer
all the times i quit my job
all the times i made it to the top
i line my life with cotton
my bureau with dreams - there is a climax of thinking
in it all

the constant and the profound
there in lies the comedy - still awaiting a rewrite
and cast

(said) life is a contest - a hopscotch,
a jump rope of possibility
a woman laughs
in an adjacent room - she passes the
screen test but
lacks identity - some want

to call her mistress
i'll just call her
whore...

  3. I like in this the uncertainty about where to step, the history forever waiting to be made coherent or the fantasy so inauthentic. We create the real through continual role-playing, yet that is what is left, collected from that, seems false and untranscendant compared to the fantasy.

  4. Yeah, she's a fickle gal, but if anyone can (re)write her an identity, it's you. Love the image of the bureau lined with dreams...
