Tapping Toes

The value of a rhythm is in the beat, in the sound
with the tapping of the toes
tapping to the soul oozing through the ground
that deep cajun sound...

A horn belting through a dancing town; downing
saintly rhythms; restless souls, walking
New Orleans bound....tapping, tapping
listening to that soul, tapping as it goes; a pearly gate,
golden gates bound rhythm.. souls marching on
born, born to dance,
singing give me all night long
tapping, tapping all night long, to a Louisiana horn
til' early morn
and those toes go on tapping, go crying mama
go crying daddy, go crying
hal-le-lu-jah all the way home

  8. Fantastic! I had trouble with this one too. I like to say something original, not just go with the obvious, and that's what you've done here. I love it! You've rendered it so well that I can hear that music. I especially love the last few lines with the bold type. :-)

  17. Nice tale. Very upbeat and lively. Brian said he now has AC/DC stuck in his head. I have As the Saints Go Marching In. Go figure. We all see/hear things differently.

  23. awesome rhythmn and love the rhyme. i has a great feel, and really does conjure the sensation and beat of good cajun music and Louise Armstrong. I think this prompt was a hard one to pull off, writing anything unique unless you were writing a short story, but you did write a poem that was totally dif. hats off to you, you did an amazing job. enjoyed this one tons.

  24. No BKM, the song title is Dancing in the Dark, not the Bath, silly! Love the life in your word music.

  25. The idea that this was a dance of death scared me a bit..
But I loved the beat and rhythm of your poem!!
It's musical!! Some percussion would have completed the picture!! :) I imagined this, and the your poem and the drums sounded great together !!

    Well written, my friend..

  26. Kavita, thank for the comment...just wanted to let you know this is far from a dance of death...it is about the music of Louisana and New Orleans..which is quite full of life....bkm

  29. I just commented on your Magpie after this one (titled "A Tap on the Door") about how I loved the use of the word tap because it put a beat to your poem like when someone tap dances. And then I wandered here next and found this Magpie from last week and it is all about tap dancing. That's just freak weird to me. Love your work, keep it up.
