contraband

there is contraband
on my tongue
the taste
of cigarette on my mind -
not all space is equal, squared
the leveling of our soul is weighed
unfair -
degrees of reference left
unkempt

i walk cement you have
laid, crawl the cracks you
lie between - there lives the mark
of memory made - a world
you shared with me

the tattoo i wear is permanent
internal - covered by my skin in printed sight -a world
to bright to feel its flame

i drink (drunk) on the love
you gave to me - addicted deep
to loves memory- of which i
can not, can never be free...a world
to lost to feel its flame

there is contraband
on my tongue - the laughter of a song
unsung - no one to blame or call
upon - to save a world you shared
with me - and as i collect the
words (the gift few
the days we had) the fire that we knew

not all space is equal
squared the leveling of our soul
it is weighed unfair

A Song for Somewhere....

like love for the wicked
or a bottle filled with sin
this feeling always wins...
and if I leave you standing
I won't be back again

the boots at your doorstep
will not be there come tomorrow
the moon can sense my sorrow
and the dust that surrounds them
is the road that I must follow

do not mark your heaven
no, do not mark your name
remember me - as if I never came
for I will leave you standing
and won't be back again

I sense the call of summer
as come, has quickly past
this love would never  last
and seasons know my longing
know to them my heart's been cast

the road many will walk it
and many stop along its way
gather shelter and they stay
I can only  feel its moment
as the measure of that day

do not mark your heaven
no, do not mark your name
remember me - as if I never came
for I will leave you standing
and won't be back again

I'm a lover and a dreamer
gambling is my game
whiskey has my middle name
and all bets are on the shadow
with no reason to explain

the whistle through the canyon
the wind that marks the fall
they know me one and all
and I will be gone by morning
as the season's sirens call

do not mark your heaven
no, do not mark your name
remember me - as if I never came
for I will leave you standing
and won't be back again

yes, I will leave you standing
on a road that has no end....
