There stands two trees tall, forever green
beside the cottage behind the house
a door through which you have not seen
a long stone hearth that holds a self, a place
of promise called by night
and lost within a winter storm
that left a message cold and white, where mother says
I was born.
On such a day that too was blessed
with snow and flake - cold but fine
and through this world I came to
wonder What was Gods and What was mine
I danced between those two pines
that laughed in summer and the spring
when autumn came, I too came to ponder
what the future, its new year would bring...
I grew and watched the hearth give life
to children younger then myself
and knew the blessings of my
mother would last forever as my wealth,
of home and family
of hearth and heart
and what it could or could not give
and when the time is right for me to marry,
it is there I first will live
